What causes nasal obstructions?

Nasal obstruction is a very common complaint that can affect both children and adults. There are numerous potential causes for the nose to be blocked, these include:

  • Adenoidal hypertrophy (enlarged adenoids)
  • Allergic rhinitis (hayfever)
  • Deviated nasal septum
  • Chronic rhinitis (with or without nasal poylps)
  • Infection (sinusitis)
  • Nasal tumours

 

What are the symptoms?

Some common symptoms include a blocked nose, itching nose, runny nose, ear problems (including glue ear) and sleep apnoea.
